History and reconstruction
The Puskás Arena, Hungary’s new national arena was opened in November 2019 after the rebuilt of the historic Puskás Ferenc Stadium which was named also after the most celebrated and most well known Hungarian football player.

The historic Ferenc Puskás Stadium was built 1948-1953 and opened in 1953. The old stadium was multifunctional, most often giving place for football matches and concerts until its closure in 2016.
In 2017, the legendary stadium was pulled down and the rebuilding started.
The construction works of the brand new Hungarian football arena were finished in 2019, which is now equipped with the latest technology and has a capacity of 68,000 seats.
The newly built Puskás Arena started with a friendly opening match between Hungary and Uruguay on 15 November 2019. Puskás Arena also hosted the UEFA Super Cup Final, Bayern Munich and Sevilla (2:1) in Budapest on 24 September 2020.
